Amec Has Appointed Samir Brikho, a senior executive at ABB Group, as its new chief executive. Mr Brikho will take over from the current CEO, Peter Mason on 1 October. Mr Mason has held the top job at the UK-based contractor for ten years.

Mr Brikho, a 48-year old Swedish citizen, currently heads ABB's Power Systems Division and is Chairman of ABB Lummus Global. The businesses had revenues of about US$ 5 billion (€ 6.4 billion) in 2005.

Jock Green-Armytage, Chairman of Amec said, “We are delighted to announce the appointment of Samir Brikho as Chief Executive. His experience and success in a major international company of the calibre of ABB together with his personal dynamism, ideally qualifies him to take AMEC forward.”

According to Construction Europe's CE - 100 league table of European construction companies, Amec was ranked as Europe's 10th largest contractor last year. It has consistently ranked in the top 10 over the last five years.

However, this year has seen it restructure itself in response to lacklustre profits. In May it sold its French subsidiary Spie for € 1 billion, a unit that represented about 35% of its turnover.
