Italian-based Salini Impregilo has been awarded a Polish contract worth €117 million to build a section of the S7 Expressway south of Krakow near the border with Slovakia.

The project, which is expected to last 22 months, includes 6km of asphalt road, two interchanges with roundabouts and 21 engineering structures, including a 992m bridge and a 400m viaduct with multiple spans.

The client is Poland’s General Directorate of National Roads & Motorways (GDDKiA).

Salini Impregilo said the new contract increased the value of its order backlog in the country to more than €650 million, and claimed it consolidated its leadership in the infrastructure sector with the S3 Nowa Sol-Legnica, the S8 Warsaw Bypass, the S7 Chęciny-Jędrzejów section and the A1 lot F, near Katowice, all under construction in Poland.
