APR Energy expands Myanmar turnkey power plant

APR Energy has commissioned a 20 MW expansion of its Myanmar power plant, guaranteeing the country’s electricity provider a minimum of 102 MW of generation.

The mobile turbine power company said the plant, in Kyaukse, Mandalay region, is one of the largest in the country. It features CAT low-emission mobile gas power modules and runs on natural gas.

The plant entered operation in May 2014.

Clive Turton, APR’s managing director Asia Pacific, said: “Expanding contracts is an important part of our strategy and business model.

“The added capacity at our Myanmar plant follows our previously announced expansion in Indonesia earlier this year, and is the result of growing regional demand.”

The Indonesian deal, signed last month, was for 115 MW of extensions on two power generation contracts, with a contract extension and 5 MW on a third site.

Outside Asia Pacific, the company also operates in the Americas, Africa and the Middle East.
