Latest Volvo CE excavators offer integrated Engcon’s tiltrotators and safe quick hitches

Swedish OEMs Volvo CE and Engcon have announced a long-term collaboration, with customers able to purchase Volvo’s EC250E and EC300E excavators with integrated Engcon tiltrotators and safe quick hitches.

The global agreement brings Engcon’s eML (engcon Machine Link) solution together with Volvo’s Smart Connect technology, via a smart interface, allowing the Engcon system to communicate with the machine’s computer.

This, says Engcon, will allow the tiltrotator to be used in conjunction with Volvo’s proprietary machine control system, Dig Assist.

Fredrik Eklind, product owner at Engcon Control Systems, said, “With this intelligent solution, Engcon’s tiltrotator can become a fully integrated part of the machine and the benefits are many: time savings during installation, retained CE marking and direct integration with Volvo Dig Assist to name just a few. Customers can enjoy a fully integrated solution where value and customer experience are totally in focus.”

Eklind added that “The project and the close collaboration between Volvo and Engcon will continue. The ambition is that in 2021 we will see more of Volvo’s machine models launched with the Volvo Smart Connect option and that together we will continue the development of intelligent and integrated solutions.”

Describing the advantages of the Smart Connect solution, Kurt Deleu, head of excavator product management EU/INT at Volvo CE, said, “The new platform is exciting and brings the best that you can get today on the excavator market. Certain solutions, such as Smart Connect allows different brands of tiltrotator to integrate seamlessly with our machines”

Engcon says it expects the first of the Volvo machines with integrated Engcon tiltrotators to be delivered to customers in the first quarter of this year.
