Blue Rock to build cement plant in Peru

Investment company Blue Rock Cement Holdings has announced plans to build a US$ 230 million cement plant in Peru. The facility will be sited some 90 km south of the capital, Lima, and is expected to start production in 2013.

Cemex is a minority partner in Blue Rock, and it has confirmed it will contribute up to US$ 100 million to develop, build and operate the 1 million tonnes per year plant. According to Cemex the Peruvian construction industry has enjoyed sustained annual growth of more than +10% for several years.

Cemex executive vice president for planning & finance, Fernando Gonzalez, said, "Our participation in this project will allow us to enhance our footprint in the attractive Peruvian market, and will complement our business portfolio in the region."
