Byrne wins big accommodation job in Qatar

29 February 2012

Algeco and Dubai-based Byrne Equipment Rental have won a major temporary building contract in Qatar with Oryx GTL, a petrochemical company.

Byrne, which is Algeco's partner in the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, will supply 44 of Algeco's 4000KD to create a two-storey structure for Oryx. Byrne will also supply rental power for the duration of the contract. It is the two companies' largest accommodation rental contract to date in the Middle East.

Graeme Clack, Byrne's CEO, said, "The relationship between Algeco Byrne in Qatar is going from strength to strength. There are no comparable products in Qatar in terms of quality or flexibility, which means that with Algeco we are able to provide first class building rental solutions to the Qatar market.

"This agreement with Oryx GTL is the latest success in Qatar and we are looking forward to announcing similar deals as the year progresses."

Algeco and Byrne have further expansion planned for the upcoming year and are in discussion regarding several other Middle East countries.

Meanwhile, Byrne Equipment Rental has put up for sale its rental stock of SlickGuard edge protection units. The company has invested in the product over the past two years, but said that "the downturn in the construction industry generally has obviously affected the market, leaving it surplus to requirements in the wider rental market".

Byrne said the edge protection units would be suitable for contractors or other rental companies. SlickGuard is made in the UK by the Slick Group.
