Compact solution for German demolition project

28 June 2012

Two Bobcat machines, a S650 loader and an E16 excavator, are providing a material handling solution for InMotion Construction and Trading Services on a sub-contract involving soft strip and asbestos removal during the demolition of the former Löhrhof shopping centre in Recklinghausen, Germany, for contractor GL-Abbruch.

The old centre, built in 1975, is being demolished to make way for the new Recklinghausen Arcaden mall, with the demolition requiring the removal of 70,000 tonnes of concrete, 30,000 lighting units, 18,750 square metres (202,000 square feet) of floor coverings and 10,000 square metres 107,639 square feet) of dry walling.

The S650 is being used to load materials both inside and outside the building, with its low weight allowing it to be used on the upper levels of the structure. It is used to load demolition debris into on site containers, both over the side and by being driven inside. The E16 is predominantly being used indoors, where its extending tracks allow it to fit through 1 m wide doors, and its width adjustable stabiliser and dozer blades make it well suited for demolition duties.
