UK contractor Connell Brothers has taken delivery of two Volvo EC300DL excavators fitted with OilQuick OQ80 hydraulic couplers, with managing director Jim Connell saying that all future new machines would be fitted with this system by UK OilQuick dealer ECY Haulmark.

With their OQ80 systems allowing tool changes from the cab in less than 20 seconds, the two new machines have joined an ongoing contract to demolish 15 blocks of social housing in the Salford area of the city of Manchester – Jim said that it will be interesting to understand how the introduction of the OilQuick system half way through the project will change the dynamics of how the company was previously demolishing the blocks and taking up the slabs.

Connell has also added two new VTN MD290 demolition sorting grabs for the machines, the design of which has recently been modified with new features such as oversized bump stops, twin rams and hydraulic dampening on the opening and closing. The pivot pins and bosses are now bigger and stronger, and the grab now has a larger capacity for handling material.
