Construction of €190 million Polish road to begin

As a joint venture, Budimex and Ferrovial Agroman have signed a PLN802 million (€190 million) contract with Trasa Łagiewnicka to construct the Łagiewniki Road in Kraków, Poland.

The investor has signed agreements for financing the Polish road project with the European Investment Bank and Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego.

Hailed by Jacek Majchrowski, mayor of the city, as “one of the most important investments in coming years in Kraków”, it will connect the Ruczaj housing estate and Zakopiańska road with the Wola Duchacka and Kurdwanów housing estates.

Construction of the 3.5km section of dual carriageway will start at the crossing with Grota-Roweckiego road and end at the crossing with Beskidzka road and Halszki road.

The project will also involve the creation of a 2.5km tram route, tunnels for the main carriageways under the crossings, work on a railway line connecting the Kurdwanów housing estate with Zakopiańska road, and the relocation of the Wilga riverbed.

Majchrowski said, “The project will have an effect on reducing traffic in the heart of Kraków — including the Trzech Wieszczów avenues — and take over some of the traffic between districts from the centre, resulting in reduction of emissions.”
