Cummins opens world's largest genset testing hall

Cummins Power Generation has officially opened a new Acoustical Testing Facility (ATC) at its Fridley headquarters in Minnesota, US, and said it was the largest engine-testing facility of its kind in the world.

The ATC eliminated any external noise interference and is a hemi-anechoic (no echo) chamber, allowing Cummins to measure precisely the noise output from generator sets of all types and sizes.

Cummins said pinpointing the sources of noise in a generator help it design quieter, ‘greener' products. It also reduces external noise pollution by removing the need to test gensets outdoors.

Tony Satterthwaite, president of Cummins Power Generation, said, "The opening of the ATC demonstrates our company's commitment to continuous improvement in product design as well as to environmental responsibility.

"It also allows us to create several new jobs, one more example of the continuing growth of Cummins Power Generation."
