Demolition at One Great George Street

19 September 2014

The Institute of Demolition Engineers has released the programme for its annual Autumn Seminar that is to be held at the usual venue of One Great George Street in London, UK, on Friday 26 September.

The day will be opened at 10.00 by a welcome from president Steve Jack, who will be followed by AR Demolition’s Richard Dolman, who will outline the work his company undertook during the demolition of the Belgrave Flyover in Leicester, UK. He in turn will be followed by GMH Planning managing director Glen Hide, whose topic for the morning will be Managing NEC3 contracts and the associated programme.

After a break, Ron Cowan, a consultant with Emergencies Planning& Disaster management, will take to the stage to give a presentation entitled: Lockerbie: a voluntary response. Now a property developer in and around London, former All-Black number eight Zinzan Brooke will follow on, describing his experiences in the construction sector since he retired from playing with rugby club Harlequins in 2002. The final morning presentation will be from the HSE’s John Underwood with a paper entitled: No harm managing the demolition process.

Kicking off the afternoon session will be Martin Bjerregaard (also speaking at the World Demolition Summit), from d3 consulting, who will look at the recycling opportunities offered by offshore decommissioning activities. Avant Tecno sales manager Alan Matchett will follow, with a presentation on that company’s product offerings that can find use in the demolition role, with Shaun Knott from Casella Measurement Systems following on to cover the topic: Noise, dust and vibration monitoring on demolition sites.

Proceedings will be brought to a close by a presentation from David Grindley and David Cole from the Tongole Foundation. This is a charity working to meet the economic, social and environmental needs of the most vulnerable communities within Africa and more specifically the Nkhotakota district of Malawi.
