Energy orders worth £3 million for Konecranes UK

Scotland-based overhead crane manufacturer Konecranes (UK) has won orders for ten cranes valued at £2.967 million (US$6 million). The cranes will be used in four power station projects in the UK, Ireland, Holland and France.

Gamma Power Systems in Turkey ordered a 105/20 tonne SMD crane and a 15 tonne CXTD crane, both with 26.7 m span for the turbine hall of a 400 MW combined cycle power plant in Cork, Ireland. E.ON Energy in France ordered four 100/20 tonne SMD cranes with 33 metre span. Three are destined for the 2,000 MW West Burton coal-fired power station in Nottinghamshire, UK and the fourth will go to Blénod Power station in France.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has upped its order from three to four cranes. The first order is for three 110/35 tonne SMD cranes with 31 m span and the fourth crane will be a 65 tonne SMD Goliath type. Mitsubishi has a turnkey contract with Dutch utility Nuon for three gas fired combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) units, of 430 MW each.

All the above power station cranes will have DynA Invertor variable speed on all motions and Konecranes Remox radio remote controls with back up pendants. All hoists have Konecranes ControlPro monitors on the hoisting motion with overload detection, brake wear monitoring, and calculation of the crane hoist duty to plan maintenance. The unit also includes a "black box" function to store and record the number of cycles, overload attempts and temperature trips.

Deliveries will be beteween December 2008 and August 2009.
