Caterpillar has released a new proprietary fuel management system on the 988H large wheel loader in order to address the rising price offuel and customers' requirements foroptimised performance.

A spokesman for Caterpillar said that the new system was found to have a fuel savings advantage of +15% on on average over similar machines system. Caterpillar has has designed the new 988H Fuel Management System, which is is standard on all new machines, with three different operating modes.

The modesinclude full power, balanced power and max fuel savings. A retrofit kit will be available in September 2007 for all 988H machines manufactured before June 2007.
