US generator manufacturer Generac has expanded with a deal to acquire Pramac America, which produces and distributes portable generators and water pumps and other related products.
Pramac, which was owned by Pramac Industries, manufactures products under the Pramac and Powermate brands as well as the DeWalt and Porter Cable brands through a licensing agreement in the US, Canada and Mexico.
Generac said the acquisition complimented its Engine Powered Tools business by expanding its portable products portfolio – adding a series of entry-level and professional-grade portable generators and pumps.
A Generac spokesperson said, “This expanded offering provides even greater distribution opportunities for both companies and allows us to leverage our combined scale and strength to create value for our customers in sourcing, distribution, manufacturing, and product design.”
Generac said Pramac America would be renamed as Powermate America, remaining a separate business under Generac Holdings, while the Pramac brand would be phased out.
It said the Powermate brand would continue to be used on entry-level portable generator and pump products, while the DeWalt brand would be found on products serving professional customers.
There would be no change to the Generac line of portable products as a result of the deal, according to the company.
