Green Island project for Potain

Six Potain tower cranes have been put to work at the RC Green Island 2 residential development in Kiev, Ukraine.

The Green Island 2 development is made up of four 25 storey towers. It will have 944 apartments, a two storey underground car park and a seven-story office. The building is being developed by Kiev-based Kovalska Industrial and Construction Group.

The cranes have been rented from Potain’s Ukranian dealer Hoisting Machines. Models include two MDT 178s and four MC 175 Bs. The 8 tonne capacity models are working at heights of up to 92 metres.

To minimise construction time, the six tower cranes are divided among the four towers and are configured to allow them to work on two towers each, a spokesperson said. Jib lengths from 33 to 45 m. To minimise collisions, the cranes have been equipped with Potain’s Top Tracing anti-collision technology.

Tasks for the tower cranes include lifting construction materials including formwork, rebar, structural components, scaffolding and façade materials.

Sergey Mysnik, sales manager at Hoisting Machines, said, “This project needs efficient cranes with strong winches that will keep working day and night, so naturally Potain was the ideal choice. We are confident in their capabilities and are proud to see another Kiev development rising with the help of our cranes.”

The first Potain tower crane was erected in December 2012. All six cranes will remain on site until the end of 2014.
