Grove's new 40 tonne capacity TMC 540 truck mounted crane was a surprise appearance on the Manitowoc stand on the first day of Intermat.

Alex Dahm, editor of International Cranes and Specialized Transport magazine, talked to Ruben Olivas Saunders at Manitowoc about the new crane, which is mounted on a four axle Scania chassis-cab.

The TMC 540 is a European version of the TM 500 E2 sold in the US and will be assembled alongside Grove rough terrains and small all terrains at the Manitowoc plant in Niella Tanaro, Italy.

The model for Europe has the longer (31 m) box boom of the two options available on the US version. Total weight fully equipped and with full counterweight comes in under 32 tonnes to allow unrestricted and permit-free road travel in Europe.

The taxi crane has two engines to optimise operation regarding the different requirements for road travel and crane operation, and, according to the company "is the most economical and efficient lifting device in the 35 to 45 tonne capacity range of wheeled mobile cranes."
