Joint venture contractor Nass Murray and Roberts has installed the second of three turbine-carrying bridges at the 240 m high Bahrain World Trade Centre (BWTC).

The bridge will be one of three, 32 m long, 50 tonne, structures that will each be used to carry a 29 m diameter wind turbine. Once installed and working the turbines will provide about 15% of the two tower’ s electricity needs.

According to a project spokesman, the turbines are scheduled to be installed in January 2007.

The estimated cost of fabricating and erecting the building’ s bridges and turbines has been put at US$ 2.7 million.

Construction of the BWTC started in June 2004 and was expected to be complete by the summer of 2006.
