Impregilo in Qatar contract win

Italian contractor Impregilo has been awarded a €100 million (US$ 130 million) contract to construct a storm water drainage tunnel in Doha, Qatar.

Issued by the Public Works Authority of Qatar, the design and build contract involves the construction of a main 9.5 km water collection tunnel with a diameter of 4.5 m, and the construction of 21 access shafts.

Impregilo said two tunnel boring machines would be used for the excavation of the tunnel. It added that work on the project was scheduled to be completed in four years.
