Intermat: Komatsu debuts electric mini

Komatsu is showing its PC20e mini excavator for the first time at a trade show at this week’s Intermat exhibition in Paris.

The 2 tonne machine, which is set to be launched in the next year, is powered by a 11.9kW battery that can last up to eight hours on a single charge, depending on the type of work. 

The machine can be charged via two outlets, while an optional fast charger gets the machine from 20% to 100% in an hour.

It offers many of the same specifications as its diesel-powered counterpart, and comes with a bucket capacity of 0.02 - 0.03 m³, the company said.

Elsewhere on its stand, the company is showing the PC138E-11, an electric model with a battery capacity of 225.6 kWh, operating weight of 15.3 tonnes and maximum digging depth of 4,565m.

The company told IRN that the machine will be made available in Japan initially, before being rolled out in Europe at a later date.

In the midi range, the company is showcasing its PC88MR-11, a crawler model with a maximum operating weight of 8.7 tonnes.

A cab version of the 3 tonne PC33E-6 electric mini-excavator, designed for the Northern European market, is also making its debut at Intermat. The machine is expected to be available in 2025.
