Steven Elliot and Tristan King agree the deal

UK crane rental company King Lifting has ordered its first Liebherr crane, the LTM 1300-6.2.

The wheeled mobile telescopic crane is the first of its kind to be ordered for the UK market. It has a capacity of 300 tonnes at 3 metres radius and a 78 m boom. Power comes from one 450 kW Liebherr eight cylinder turbo-diesel. Maximum travel speed is 80 km/h. The crane has a total counterweight of 96 tonnes.

Speaking on the deal, Tristan King, son of the firm’s founder Bob King, said, “The Liebherr crane impressed us with its ecological use of a single engine to drive both road and crane operation modes. This makes operational and financial sense. Reducing the on board weight gives greater flexibility in what equipment or ballast the crane carries day to day, this allows us to provide quicker and more cost effective solutions to our customers.”

The mobile all terrain is installed with the Variable Supporting Base system to measure the position and support forces exerted on each individual outrigger. The onboard LICCON work planner uses this data to safely plot the working duties of the crane based on the actual data, position, ballast and ground force of that crane at that time, a company spokesperson from Liebherr explained. The moment limiter will stop the crane extending past the safe operation zone.

Kieran King, Bob’s other son, commented on the system, “The safety aspect to everyone involved in a lift is obvious; it ensures that our cranes are always within their safe operating zone, whatever the set up conditions or positioning. From a sales perspective it gives us another edge over other cranes. In difficult access area such as against buildings and obstructions or non-uniform ground conditions or even confined spaces, we are able to clearly demonstrate safe working ability. With ever increasing pressures on safety, this is a critical box ticked for many of our customers”.

Tristan King concluded, “We are looking forward to the introduction of Liebherr to our fleet and the advantages it will bring our customers. These are exciting times for King Lifting as our business continues to grow."
