The Broad Gate development in Leeds, UK will become a mixed retail and office complex

The 28,000 square metre (300,000 square foot) Broad Gate development will next year become Leed’s latest mixed retail and office complex. Client Capital and Counties is converting the onetime John Lewis department store into four large retail units, headed by supermarket Sainsbury.

Main contractor Wates Construction is adding two floors to the existing seven-storey building as it totally guts the interior. The two year, £40 million (US$78 million) conversion includes a central atrium and rear, full height glass curtain wall.
