Australian contractor Leighton's Indonesian subsidiary, PT Leighton Contractors Indonesia, is to build the new Australian Embassy in Jakarta.

The contractor - part of the Leighton Asia, India and Offshore Group - will work on the AU$ 230 million (US$ 240 million) contract as part of a joint venture with local contractor PT Total Bangun Persada.

The new Australian Embassy complex will occupy a 40,500 m2 brownfield site in Jakarta’s Patra Kuningan district. The complex will include a five-storey chancery, an official residence for the Head of Mission, accommodation for 32 staff, recreational facilities, four guard stations, a basement, as well as comprehensive landscaping. Construction is scheduled for completion in late 2015.
