More strand jacks for Sarens

International lifting and transport specialist Sarens Group has ordered 24 heavy lift strand jacks worth more than US$2 million from manufacturer Hydrospex. It is the largest order for strand jacks that Hydrospex, which also manufactures hydraulic lifting gantries, has received.

Sarens, headquartered in Belgium with operations around the world, started with strand jacks from Netherlands-based Hydrospex in 2003. First were 450 tonne capacity jacks followed by 180 tonne capacity units.

The latest order is for units ranging from 450 to 850 tonnes capacity.

Tjerko Jurgens, Hydrospex general manager, said, “More and more specialist heavy lift contractors are realising the benefits of strand jacks. Their power and versatility makes them the ideal solution for a wide variety of complex lifts.”

Hydrospex strand jacks have been used on projects around the world that include the raising of the Russian Kursk submarine, erecting the London Eye (Millennium Wheel) and the new Wembley Stadium in London, UK.

An increasingly popular application is bridge construction projects to lift deck sections. Projects this year include the new Bay Bridge in San Francisco and the New Tacoma Narrows Bridge in Washington State, US.
