Hirschmann's new gSENS DWG 20 rotary encoder uses optical sensors to break down one revolution of a shaft, of a hoist or slew drive unit, for example, into 8192 increments. The device then converts rotary position into a digital signal for transmission via CANopen interface to a controller. The encoder, says the German company, offers class IP67 water and dust protection, operates within -40 to 85°C, and resists electromagnetic contamination, vibration, and mechanical shock.
