New technology

Launched last year by Astec, but on show for the first time at ConExpo, is its Double Barrel Green System. According to the company this innovative warm mix asphalt plant cuts fuel consumption by -14% and increases production by +14% while eliminating smoke and odours and using a higher percentage of recycled material. The company said a key to the technology is the injection of water into the mix, which causes the bitumen to foam and coat the aggregates at a lower temperature.
