Palfinger Platforms has responded to the demands made on work platforms mounted on 3.5 t chassis by producing a rugged and easy to use 22 m working height machine with a number of interesting features.

Palfinger said, "Particularly high demands for cost-efficiency and occupational safety are made on aerial work platforms in the 3.5 t class. As the platforms are mainly rented, ease of operation and rugged design, in addition to the platform's performance data, are the most important features."

Notable features of the P 220 B are the maximum outreach of 14.5 m, the rugged and lightweight aluminium construction and a number of ergonomic functions.

The telescopic booms are constructed of high-precision extruded aluminium profiles. By optimising the function and form of the profile cross-sections, Palfinger believes it has created a platform with extremely high torsional stiffness, exact centring and longitudinal guidance, and minimal sag. All the hydraulic and electrical components are protected inside the unit such that the company claims, "damage to hoses, cables and cylinders is absolutely impossible. "

The P 220 B has a multi-step automatic speed increase. Once functions are activated, the motor speed increases to ensure that there is always sufficient hydraulic oil available for the best possible motion speed. This design contributes to high speed operation. When no movements are being activated, the motor immediately returns to quiet and environmentally-friendly idling speed. High-grade pumps, motors and valves and the multi-filtered oil in the hydraulic circuit provide the unit with a long service life and minimal operating and service costs.

The basket has a slewing range of +/-90° and the outreach is adjusted steplessly according to the load in the basket.

Outriggers can be controlled from the work basket, there is an automatic outrigger system and set-up levelling, as well as automatic return to the transport position, including retraction of the outriggers.
