Reduce the manual risk

06 May 2008

Preventing accidents and injuries arising from improper manual handling practice is a primary health and safety issue. To address this, Speedy Lifting Limited, part of Speedy Hire Plc in the UK, has added the Probst Jumbo BV vacuum kerbstone lifter to its equipment fleet. Equipment rental specialist Speedy claims the Jumbo BV virtually removes the need for manual handling, reduces fatigue, and protects workers in line with the manual handling regulations (1992).

The Jumbo BV allows quick and easy installation of up to 400 m of kerbstones a day, Speedy says. Each kerbstone weighs up to 120 kg. The machine attaches to a wheel loader and the kerbstones are carried on the back so distribution and laying are completed in one operation, which saves time.

“Manual handling is one of the most significant heath and safety at work issues facing council staff and contractors, along with work at heights-and that's why we are investing in the latest products and providing expert training kits which provide real solutions to councils,#8221; explains Mark Turnbull, Speedy Hire director of health, safety and training.
