Sandvik expands Svedala crusher manufacturing capacity

Sandvik is to expand its crushing equipment manufacturing capacities at Svedala, Sweden, through the construction of a new 6,000 square metre (64,500 square foot) production plant that is projected to cost SEK300 million (US$41 million). The new facility, to be completed during the early part of 2012, will be outfitted with the latest production equipment that will be used to produce key components for the company's crushers.

The new plant follows on from a decision made earlier this year to build a new distribution centre in Svedala to service the European demand for spare parts.

According to Sandvik CFO and vice president, Sandvik Mining and Construction, Gert Skold: "Sandvik Mining and Construction has in recent years consolidated manufacturing to larger and highly efficient plants. In all locations in which we have manufacturing, it must be of world class. This applies to the highest degree to our facilities in Svedala, where we also have our product development centre for crushing technology."
