Second Hyundai R220LC-9A for Chris Wright & Sons
By Lindsay Gale26 August 2015
A second Hyundai 20 tonne R220LC-9A excavator, fitted with a full demolition specification, has joined the fleet of Inverclyde, UK, based Chris Wright & Sons. It was supplied through dealer Young Plant, who completed the conversion with Hyundai’s own top and front cage protection, fitted by Walkerweld Engineering in Glasgow and a boxing ring supplied by Cabcare. Other ‘demo extras’ on the R220 include a bucket ram guard, hydraulic auxiliary lines for rotating attachments, a grab bracket for attachments, boom ram protection, side demo skirts, heavy duty belly plates and turret guard, heavy duty track motor plates and extra LED work lights.
The R220LC-9A is powered by a low emission, low noise, 117 kW (157 hp) Cummins Interim Tier 4/Stage IIIB QSB6.7 engine. This features the Cummins Direct Flow air filter that delivers better performance with faster cycle times and improved fuel economy over previous models.
Richard Boyd is currently operating the new R220LC-9A on the company's former Royal Ordinance Factory contract in Bishopton, Renfrewshire, which is currently under development. H said of his new 'toy': “We have another R220 on site as well so I have had a chance of operating that machine too. I am currently on the new machine. The demo conversion and spec on the machine is tidy and solid – and looks smart. I've found it copes well with the work it is currently undergoing which includes exposing foundations, earth moving, loading dump trucks and it handles it all well too. The operator cabin is top notch, everything is in the perfect place, easy to keep tidy and clean. Overall it’s a good ‘all-round’ machine.”
