Small milling machines key for Wirtgen

Wirtgen will be exhibiting 12 machines for road construction and rehabilitation at the Paris show, with the W 35 Ri, W 60 Ri and W 100 CFi cold milling machines and theWR 250 S-Pack recycler/soil stabiliser making their first international trade show appearances.

The company said there would be a focus on the new generation of small milling machines. Along with the W 60 Ri, with a working width of 600mm, launched in mid-2013, Wirtgen will also be presenting the brand-new W 35 Ri and the new W 100 CFi in the compact class.

A front loader, the W 100 CFi is said to be equipped with eco-friendly engine technology in compliance with Stage IV/Tier 4 Final. It claimed an improvement in milling output by as much as 15% – a leap which Wirtgen said was partly attributable to the higher engine output.

Level Pro Plus, Wirtgen’s new proprietary levelling system, has been integrated into the machine control system.

A compact large milling machine, the W 150i has milling widths of 1.20m and 1.50m. The W 210i machine has cabin and a maximum milling width of 2.20m. Wirtgen said these two power packs were suitable for removing complete roadways up to a milling depth of 330mm.

The Wirtgen Group exhibition area will also display the centrepiece of every milling machine – the milling drum. Wirtgen claims to be an innovation leader in cutting technology, and to supply the largest range of milling drums in the industry, and five exhibits will be showcased by Wirtgen, for large and small milling machines, from standard to fine milling.

For concrete paving, Wirtgen supplies a variety of solutions. The SP 15i is the smallest slipform paver model for paving areas up to 1.8m wide as well as monolithic profiles up to 1.3m high. The model which will be presented in Paris features a hydraulic vibrator, folding conveyor and the proprietary 3D machine control system Wirtgen Autopilot.

The recycler and soil stabiliser WR 250 with integrated S-Pack (spreader pack) will be seen for the first time at a trade fair.

Binder is deposited directly in front of the milling and mixing rotor via the spreader module, and immediately mixed into the soil. The closed drum housing and an additional double curtain of rubber matting prevents the formation of dust clouds and ensures that the material is exclusively spread inside the milled lane.

The tractor-towed stabiliser WS 250 from Wirtgen is also used for soil stabilisation. The company said it could be hitched quickly, transforming a simple tractor unit into a stabiliser in a matter of minutes.

The binder spreader SW 16 MC from system partner Streumaster, the laboratory-scale foamed bitumen plant Wirtgen WLB 10 S, and the laboratory-scale mixer WLM 30 round off the recycling and soil stabilisation machines to be presented at Intermat.

The Streumaster SW 16 MC has a hopper capacity of 16m³. Wirtgen said that up to ten silo trains containing binder could be processed daily. The spreading and distribution of the binder are controlled electronically.
