UK rental company One Stop Hire has acquired the Lord Hire Centres business, adding eight depots in northeast England to its network, bringing its total number of depots to 25.

Based in Chorley, Lancashire and specialising in small plant and power tools, One Stop Hire was established in 2003 by husband and wife team Steve and Danielle Hitchen.

Newcastle based Lord Hire was incorporated as R Lord & Co in 1971 by Reginald Lord and has for some years been owned by his son-in-law Chris Rowley, who is now retiring.

The company is one of the largest independent rental and sales companies in the UK and has been operating in the North East of England for 45 years.

Its rental portfolio includes access and support equipment, air tools; breaking and drilling, concreting, mixing and vibration equipment, as well as generators, lighting and pumps.

It is understood Lord Hire will continue to operate under its own brand, with its offering of products and services set to expand through One Stop Hire group’s ownership.

One Stop Hire owner Steve Hitchen reportedly said the opportunity to buy Lord Hire would enable One Stop Hire to expand its presence in the northeast of the UK, through an established family-run business with a network of branches in the region.
