Wet asbestos demolition trial

The method, which has been previously trialled elsewhere in the USA away from residential areas, involves the soaking of the walls and ceilings of asbestos contaminated buildings with a special foam and then tearing down the building using heavy equipment without removing the asbestos.

If the technique proves effective, it would make it much less costly for such structures to be demolished.

Current federal regulations require that the asbestos be removed from buildings before they are demolished, adding to the cost and complexity of the demolition process.

The structure demolished was the office building on the Oak Hollow apartment complex, which is being brought down. The rest of the buildings that make up the complex are to be demolished using traditional asbestos removal/demolition techniques.
