German winch and metal products manufacturer Zollern has completed the €10 million (US$ 12.8 million) expansion of its special profiles business unit.

The company opened its new workshop and production facilities at its Laucherthal plant in Baden-Württemberg at the beginning of September. The expansion saw the original production space of 16,980 square metres increased by a further 2,000 square metres and improvements made to production processes.

The company has added two new drawing benches, enabling Zollern to expand its product portfolio to include profile sizes up to 60 kg/m, an increase of 25% on the existing dimensional range. A further two automatic straightening presses suitable for unmanned operation increase the capacity for straightening by 6,000 tonnes of material a year.

The company has also added a test drawing bench, which means it can now produce samples for new projects without interrupting the production process. Zollern is also investing in the heat treatment of profiles, adding a bell furnace to its facility.
