Astins installs KeyZone on Heathrow site equipment

UK fit out and cladding contractor Astins has installed the new KeyZone security keypad to a fleet of AFI scissor lifts currently being used on-site to carry out a £10 million dry lining contract at Heathrow Terminal 2A.

Part of the WorkZone range of products from AFI Uplift, the KeyZone security keypad is a stand-alone unit that locks and unlocks the machine's upper control functions.

Astins fitted the KeyZone units to prevent its powered access machines from going missing, when borrowed by other contractors on site.

"We trialled KeyZone on one machine and have so far fitted it to 22 of the 31 scissor lifts, with more to follow. None of the machines fitted with this device has gone missing, so the installation has been very successful," said Josh Marshall, supervisor and manager at Astins.

While traditional keypads only have four digits, KeyZone can take eight-digit password codes, allowing for 100 million possible combinations. Operators do not have to share codes either, because the unit can be set up to take individual codes for up to 200 operators.
