Grove cranes help build Brazil World Cup stadium

Two Grove cranes are helping with the construction of the Arena Corinthians, the 2014 World Cup football stadium in São Paulo, Brazil.
The cranes on site include a 60 tonne capacity Grove RT765E-2 rough terrain crane with a 33.5 metre boom and a 220 tonne capacity GMK6220L all terrain crane with a six-section, full power 72 m boom. The two cranes are assisting with the unloading of construction materials which weigh up to 34 tonnes. The components are being lifted to heights of 33 metres, a company spokesperson said.
Crane rental company Locar, based in São Paulo, supplied the cranes to Odebrecht, the main contractor. Leanderson Dias, equipment supervisor at Locar, said the two Grove cranes are working on a tight schedule, but handling the cramped working quarters and windy conditions with ease.
“Odebrecht reports that both the Grove RT765E-2 and the GMK6220L are doing an excellent job on the site,” Dias said. “They are durable, versatile machines and are playing a significant role in streamlining the construction process.”
The stadium will host some of the 2014 games before becoming the new home of the Corinthians Brazilian football club.
