The VarioBallast function, which comes as standard on the LTM 1250-5.1, was a key reason why Megalift ordered this particular model

German rental company Megalift has ordered three new Liebherr LTM 1250-5.1 mobile cranes.

The wheeled mobile telescopic cranes will be delivered within the next three months. Megalift has also ordered an LTM 11200-9.1, which will be delivered later this year. A full range of equipment was specified. The cranes will be used for industrial installation work.

Liebherr claims its 250 tonne capacity LTM 1250-5.1 is the most powerful mobile crane on five axles on the market. It was the VarioBallast function, however, that attracted Megalift’s attention. VarioBallast means that the crane can be operated at two ballast radii (5.58 m or 4.78 m) and the ballast radius can be reduced by 800 mm using standard mechanically adjusted ballasting cylinders. Liebherr says the reduction of the ballast radius offers more working space in narrow jobsites.

Megalift managing director, Bernd Preusse, explained why VarioBallast was such an important selling point, "Highly flexible machines are very important for our day-to-day business. Liebherr's VarioBallast delivers exactly this flexibility. It also reduces the number of ballast transport runs we have to make."
