Strabag and Budimex in Polish contract

Strabag’s Polish subsidiary has been awarded a further contract for a section of the A1 motorway in Poland, in a consortium with Poland’s Budimex in which Strabag holds 92%.

The 17km Section C begins at the Kamieńsk junction and ends at Radomsko, where the construction of a motorway interchange forms part of the contract. The total value of the design-and-build contract is €133 million.

Construction is expected to begin before the end of 2018, with handover scheduled after a period of 32 months.

The contract includes the construction of a motorway section with three lanes in each direction, as well as 16 bridges and three rest areas.

Thomas Birtel, Austrian-based Strabag’s CEO, said, “Just one month ago, we added a 16km long section of the A1 (between Tuszyn and Bełchatów) to our order books. That order is also being performed under a design-and-build contract, which means that we can apply our know-how already in the design phase.”

For the earlier A1 project, the Polish General Directorate for National Roads and Highways (GDDKiA) awarded a design-and-build contract to a syndicate in which Strabag has a 50% share. The contract is worth approximately €111 million.

The whole of this section will be constructed using concrete, with two lanes in each direction. The contract also covers two junctions, 17 bridges, several intersections and access roads, noise barriers and wildlife crossings.
