The new Komatsu WB93R-8

Komatsu Europe is re-entering the backhoe loader market some years after saying that it felt the machine type would disappear from Western Europe, to be replaced my mini excavators.

Now, Enrico Prandini, managing director of Komatsu Italia Manufacturing, said that the launch of the new machine, which had taken only two years, was a sign that the company was flexible and could respond to market developments.

The WB93R‐8 backhoe loader is the first model in a new range in line with EU Stage IV emission regulations.

The WB93R‐8 claims a high level of standard specifications and industry‐leading operator visibility with Komatsu’s combination of a lateral exhaust pipe and compact bonnet.

Alex Visentin, product manager at Komatsu Europe, said, “This new series is a perfect match between performance and efficiency. Along with exceptional visibility and the exclusive design of the work equipment, our new backhoe loaders offer increased productivity with a clear focus on the operator’s needs”.

Built around the features of previous Komatsu backhoe loaders, the new WB93R‐8 has an operating weight of 8,130kg, and is said to have an improved EU Stage IV Komatsu SAA4D99E‐1 engine with more power at 75kW and a lower fuel consumption, with no loss of performance or productivity.

With a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system using AdBlue, the new aftertreatment system is said to reduce NOx emissions, to offer better protection to both the operator and bystanders.

Komatsu Closed Load Sensing System is at the core of the new WB93R‐8’s hydraulics. It is supplemented by power/economy working modes and Komatsu’s parallel loader linkage, ideal for working with forks. There in the standard Return to Dig function, a differential lock and a selectable floating function for the loader.

The battery, main switch and relays are said to be conveniently located, with a better maintenance access to the electrical system. The AdBlue tank is accessible from ground level which the company said led to a quick, easy and safe refill.
