SC&RA names Job of the Year winners

SC&RA announced the winners of its 2020 Job of the Year Awards during an online award presentation hosted 10 July. The Association held the competition virtually this year due to cancellation of its Annual Conference in April.

The judges for the rigging categories were: Lead Judge: Randy Sever, Executive Vice President, PSC Crane & Rigging; David Cowley, President, BOSS Crane & Rigging; Gord Gilchrist, Equipment Director, Mammoet Americas; Randy Goddard, Vice President, Retired, International Industrial Contracting Corporation; and Doug Williams, CEO, Buckner HeavyLift Cranes.

The Hauling category judges were: Lead Judge: Ron Montgomery, President, IRH; Ed Bernard, President, Precision Specialized Inc.; Keith Guiochet, Vice President, Heavy Haul for NCSG Trans Tech; Mike Poppe, President, Precision Heavy Haul, Inc.; and Jim Vitez, President-Owner, KMX International.

The Rigging Job of the Year competition recognized four projects that illustrate the expertise and talent needed to meet the most daunting and imposing professional challenges encountered in rigging. The winners were judged on safety; innovation; ingenuity; complexity; engineering and planning; and commercial terms/limitations. The winners are:

Under $150,000: Barnhart
Barnhart removed and replaced a 6,000-pound bellowseal guillotine damper at a cement plant.

$150,000 -$750,000: Oxbo Mega Transport Solutions
Oxbo Mega Transport Solutions lifted and installed a 300-foot-long by 500-ton pedestrian bridge under high voltage power lines and over railroad tracks.

$750,000 - $2 Million: Barnhart
The Barnhart team removed and replaced two feedwater heaters from inside a reactor building.

Over $2 million: Fagioli SPA
Fagioli SPA demolished the Morandi bridge in Genova, Italy.

The Hauling Job of the Year competition judges graded on exceptional skill and superior ability when meeting some of the most difficult professional challenges encountered in hauling. The following members were recognized for shipment routing, planning, overcoming physical elements, and safety considerations:

Under 160,000 lbs (net): Transport Watson MTL
Transport Watson transported tad rolls from Becancour to Sherbrooke, Quebec.

160,000 to 500,000 lbs (net): Emmert International
Emmert International transported a biofuel FT reactor from Houston, Texas to Clark, Nevada.

Moving: Oxbo Mega Transport Solutions
The Oxbo Mega Transport Solutions team transported 290 wind components to a ridgeline wind project in Oklahoma with grades up to 25 percent.
