Liebherr wins 295,000 tonne-metre crane contract

The maritime crane division of Liebherr at Rostock in Germany has won a contract to supply a 5,000 tonne capacity offshore crane. It is for the Orion, a new wind farm installation and platform decommissioning vessel ordered by Deme from Cosco (QiDong) Offshore, a subsidiary of Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry in China.

The heavy lift crane HLC 295000 is rated at 295,000 tonne-metres. It will lift its maximum 5,000 tonnes to a radius of more than 30 metres and 3,000 tonnes to a radius of more than 50 metres. Maximum lifting height will be 180 metres, Liebherr said.

We see a promising future in the heavy lift sector, with growth in both the green energy sector and also offshore decommissioning.”

In addition to the main crane, the order also includes two Liebherr RL-K 4200 knuckle boom cranes and an offshore crane simulator. Delivery is scheduled for the first quarter of 2019.
