1,000th landmark for Potain

Potain, part of the Manitowoc Crane Group, has celebrated delivery of the 1,000th unit of what it describes as one of the most successful self erecting tower cranes of all time.

The GTMR 386 was launched in 1989 and has been sold in countries across the world, ranging from France, Germany and Turkey to Cuba, Russia and Turkmenistan. The 1,000th unit was delivered to French contractor Sogea Construction.

Commenting on the model's success, David Havard, Potain tower crane global product manager, said, “They are perfectly suited to residential construction, such as apartment blocks or hotels. In addition, customers like them for their very powerful load curves. At 50 m, the GTMR 386 can lift 1.5 tonnes or, with a 31 m jib, 4.1 tonnes. This makes them ideal for moving steel formwork and concrete buckets. The GTMR 386 can be transported on only three trucks and has good versatility in height and jib length.”

Lifting capacity is up to 8 tonnes, maximum reach is 50 m and height under hook is up to 36.2 m.
