The 1,000th Lieberr Mobile Harbour Crane, an LPS 550, has been delivered and erected at Montoir Bulk Terminal (MBT), the first French terminal for bulk food and peat.

The LPS 550, which will play a major role in MBT’s cargo handling chain to optimise bulk transport, has a capacity of 75 tonnes in grab operation.

The crane's structure is based on the construction of the LHM 550 mobile harbour crane model. Modifications include a tailor-made portal, which allows usage of the area underneath the slewing cabin, and the use of a conveyor belt and a hopper, which makes it possible to install the crane directly above the conveyor.

Crane operators can also rely on Liebherr’s Cycoptronic with Teach-In extension, which calculates possible sway and automatically initiates dynamic counterbalancing movements to eliminate load swing. This point to point control for semi-automatic operation pilots the crane to predetermined loading and unloading points. Once these points have been set, the crane moves between them with the highest possible speed. If one of the predefined points is reached the crane automatically stops. In addition, automatic steering to target points without any load swing and the possibility to stop crane motion at any time lead to a notable increase in safety and speed.

The LPS 550 also has a Pactronic hybrid drive system, which boosts performance and reduces emissions.

The crane was manufactured and pre-tested in Rostock before its delivery to the west coast of France. MBT is a joint venture between SEA-invest and IDEA Groupe.
