AST rises to Singapore space challenge

AST machinery erected three Liebherr luffing jib tower cranes in a retricted working space to help build a residential block in Singapore.

The proximity of a number of other tower cranes on the project led to the three 16 tonne capacity 160 HC-L units being used on the high-density Housing and Development Board (HDB) project at Yishun New Town, said a Liebherr spokesman.

"These luffing-jib units can avoid any obstruction, raising their jib angles between 15 and 70 degrees and slewing through 360 degrees."

The block, built by Singapore Piling & Civil Engineering, has a maximum height of 45.5 m and comprises 864 flats.

The three 160 HC-Ls join seven other tower cranes at the site, all supplied by AST. Typical lifts on the project are between 3 to 4 tonnes. At a maximum 55 m reach, the 160 HC-L can lift 2 tonnes.
