Astaldi wins €82 million rail contract

Italian-based contractor Astaldi has been awarded a contract worth €82 million to renovate a section of the E-59 Warsaw-Poznań railway line – Lot IV – in Poland as part of a joint venture in which Astaldi will have a 95% share and Italian-based railway company Costruzioni Linee Ferroviarie will have 5%.
The customer is Polskie Linie Kolejowe – a public company that operates Poland’s railway infrastructure – and the works will be financed by a combination of European funds and state budget.
The project calls for the reconstruction of track systems along 35km of the existing line, as well as the upgrading of the line’s viaduct system – including the building of two additional viaducts – and the construction of two railway stations, at Rawicz and Bojanowo.
The project is expected to take just over two years to complete and it was said that no disruption would be caused to railway traffic on the line.
Astaldi said that winning this project was in line with its strategy plan [LINK] for the period between 2017 and 2021 because it strengthens the group’s activity in Central Europe, raising its standing in Poland, where Astaldi currently manages an order backlog worth approximately €1 billion.
