Atlanta airport announces US$ 6 billion expansion plan

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) has launched a US$ 6 billion 20-year expansion programme.

Central to the capital plan, is a new runway, expected to cost US$ 943 million and be delivered in 2034.

More immediately, the airport authorities will spend around US$ 1 billion in 2017 alone, as initial outlay on a new concourse, a modernisation programme for the main terminal and new passenger transit facilities.

A hotel and commercial complex is expected to be completed by 2018, at a cost of US$ 500 million.
