UK-based crane rental company Berry Cranes has taken delivery of new lightweight spreader plates from polyethylene outrigger pads manufacturer Outriggerpads.

The rental company is the first in the UK to offer its customers the new 1.5m x 1.5 metre spreader plates. The plates are manufactured from high density polyethylene (HDPE) and are resistant to water, oil and chemicals. In addition, the plates do not splinter, the manufacturer added.

Outriggerpads is the first UK company to stock polyethylene pads of this size. The pads weigh 214 kg each and have four metal bars for lifting hooks. They are lighter than the equivalent sized steel pads, but have a greater load bearing capability, the manufacturer said.

Neil Berry, Berry Cranes managing director, said, “We are proud to be the first hire company in the UK to invest in this new type of crane mat. The integrated lifting bars make the pads quick and easy to position. We were also impressed with the light weight, the load-bearing capabilities and the longer working life compared to steel mats.”
