Brandenburg Industrial Service Company’s project at the Johnsonville Fossil Plant in Tennessee, USA, was awarded “Best of the Best” across all 12 categories for the demolition of the 1.5 GW facility, including a 182 m (600 ft) smokestack and 10 boilers and precipitators.

The project was also notable for recycling around 100,000 t of steel and the same amount of brick, block and concrete.

Dennis takes the number of confirmed WDS conference speakers to eight, and joins a list including LaJuan Counts, director of the demolition department at the city of Detroit; Pierre Migny-Torres and Alexandre Druet from Électricité de France; and British contractor Thompsons of Prudhoe’s operations director Tom Koerner.

The WDS is organised by Demolition & Recycling International in co-operation with the US National Demolition Association and the European Demolition Association. The headline sponsor is Volvo Construction Equipment.
