A consortium led by Netherlands power specialist Bredenoord has won the power rental contract for the Euro 2012 football championship to be held in Poland and the Ukraine next July.

The contract covers mobile and temporary energy to all eight venues being used at the championship. The same contract for the Euro 2008 competition was won by Aggreko.

Bredenoord has previously won large sporting contracts - including the Giro d'Italia, the Track Cycling World Championships 2011 and involvement in the Athens and Turin Olympic Games - but this will be one of its largest ever contracts.

The company has formed a consortium with four other Netherlands companies to carry out the work. These are MTD (for water management), The Powershop (installation), Polygon (climate control) and Ryano Logistics (transport).

Jaap Fluit, chief executive of the Bredenoord Group, said he was very pleased with the contract; "We are very proud of the confidence that UEFA has shown in the Apeldoorn family business. Bredenoord and its partners offer security in the area of energy supplies, water and climate control, wherever and whenever the client wants.

"Our technical know-how, our reliability and our client-oriented and innovative approach are what set us apart. This is a wonderful opportunity to show Europe what we have been good at for years. Euro 2012 will certainly contribute to the development of new opportunities in Europe."

Bredenoord said the eight host cities, which include Warsaw, Kiev and Poznan, are great distances apart and so the tournament represents a logistical challenge. The consortium has already begun its preparations for the project and will go into action for the first time at the draw in Kiev on 2 December 2011.
