Component production continues for 6,000 tonne Mammoet crane

Parts and components of a new 6,000 tonne capacity crane are being fabricated in preparation for its first assembly later in the year.

Mammoet tags its SK6000 as the world’s highest capacity land-based crane. It follows the concept and design of the smaller SK series models already in service around the world and it will be electrically powered. It was first announced in 2020 here.

It will be able to lift 3,000 tonne components at a 220 metre hook height. The crane’s maximum radius will be 200 metres. The enormous capability will mean customers can maintain project schedules, even as loads continue rapidly increasing in size and weight.

Mammoet said the SK6,000 allows EPCs to build bigger than ever before, with modules lifted directly onto the hull, without a requirement to rotate either the modules on land, or the ship.
