BigRoll Shipping, a joint venture between BigLift Shipping and RollDock Shipping in the Netherlands, has contracted Cosco Dalian Shipyard to build two new MC class module carrier vessels.

The MC class vessels will be 173 metres long with a 42 m beam and have a maximum deadweight of 21,000 tonnes. The vessels have a deck space of 42 x 125 m and Finnish / Swedish 1A ice class status.

Arne Hubregtse, of BigRoll Shipping, said, “The market’s response to BigRoll Shipping and BigRoll’s MC Class design has been very positive and we are pleased we can now announce that the vessels will be available mid 2015.”

The carriers will be used for the transportation of ultra large and heavy modular cargoes. They are scheduled for delivery in May and August 2015.
